Saawari | Blue Ajrakh Dola Silk Saree with Hand Embroidery

Saawari: a blue Ajrakh Dola Silk saree with hand embroidery
Saawari brings Ajrakh block printing and hand embroidery together on a rich blue Dola Silk base, the same combination of crafts used across our Ajrakh embroidered saree line. Where a plain Ajrakh saree relies on the block print alone, Saawari adds a second layer of handwork on top, giving the finished piece more depth and texture than printing alone can achieve.
Material and craftsmanship
The base fabric is Dola Silk, a soft, lightweight silk blend known for its natural sheen and fluid drape. The pattern begins as an Ajrakh hand block print, applied using carved wooden blocks and natural dyes, a craft practiced for generations in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Artisans then add hand embroidery over sections of the print, building visible texture into the design rather than leaving it as a flat, printed surface. Every saree is handcrafted by Indian artisans, and small variations in the print and embroidery are a natural result of genuine handwork.
Design and aesthetics
The rich blue base gives the embroidered detailing somewhere to stand out clearly, rather than competing with a busier printed background. This makes Saawari a saree that reads as considered rather than heavily decorated, suited to someone who wants visible craftsmanship without an all over embellished look.
Usage and occasions
Saawari works for weddings, festivals, and other special occasions where a blue saree with genuine handwork fits better than a plain colour block or a fully embroidered piece. The soft drape of Dola Silk also makes it comfortable enough to wear through a full day of events.
Drape and fit
Dola Silk falls soft and close to the body, easy to pleat cleanly. A classic Nivi drape lets both the Ajrakh print and the embroidered detailing sit visibly along the pallu and front pleats.
Origin and heritage
Saawari is handcrafted in Indian villages, combining Ajrakh block printing from Kutch, Gujarat, with hand embroidery, two genuine textile traditions on one saree rather than a single repeated technique.
Washing and care instructions
Dry clean only. This protects both the natural dye Ajrakh print and the hand embroidery from the damage that hand washing or machine washing can cause.
